Hines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Words have always been tools and it seems in our society today there are no limits when it comes to their creative usage, describing and identifying everything.&nbsp; Trying to keep up can be a corporate marketing nightmare: who will be first to find the <em>&#8216;next best&#8217;<\/em> phrase?\u201d&nbsp; I\u2019m not sure if this is something exclusive to capitalism in America, or if other countries are just as possessed. &nbsp;Maybe it\u2019s an aspect of human nature &#8211;something that evolved with us through time as part of our survival.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/museums-victoria-1pgMoV-L2uM-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-979\" width=\"309\" height=\"241\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Communication is a live entity&#8211;constantly growing and adapting&#8211;restrained only by lacking imaginations (and a \u2018few\u2019 rules governing grammar). &nbsp;Words identify, quantify, recognize, and categorize. &nbsp;Words create comfort and contribute to a sense of belonging and security. Words help us identify what something is and determine how to respond; based on how we were taught and influenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/icons8-team-r-enAOPw8Rs-unsplash-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1133\" width=\"-568\" height=\"-378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/icons8-team-r-enAOPw8Rs-unsplash-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/icons8-team-r-enAOPw8Rs-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We all use words but not always in the best of ways.&nbsp; Expletives and labels categorize and limit things and people; separating some from the general perception of society\u2019s <em>\u2018main-stream\u2019<\/em> (a short hand phrase used to identify<em>\u201cacceptable\u201d <\/em>or <em>\u201cnormal\u201d<\/em>). &nbsp;That same phrase  also excludes anyone challenging our perceptions of who fits within our perceived society as a whole and, more personally, who fits within my<em> &#8216;comfort zone&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/pexels-matheus-viana-3541916-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1125\" width=\"322\" height=\"429\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fear and faith could be America\u2019s<em> &#8216;Ying and Yang&#8217;<\/em>, but without the balance.&nbsp; Despite the many pontifications and accolades describing the US as a <em>\u2018faith-based\u2019<\/em> society; when <em>&#8216;push comes to shove&#8217; <\/em>for the general population, &nbsp;fear seems to be the stronger motivator. &nbsp;Many live with a perpetual <em>\u2018what if\u2019<\/em> looming in the back of their minds. &nbsp;Scouts and other groups compensate with mottos such as <em>\u2018be prepared\u2019.<\/em>&nbsp; It\u2019s <em>&#8216;stand-alone sound advice&#8217;.<\/em> But sprinkle enough fear in the mix and those innocent words go from, <em>\u201chave an emergency grab bag\u201d<\/em> to <em>\u201cbuild that underground bunker with enough food and supplies to outlast the apocalypse.\u201d <\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;If and when Armageddon comes; we\u2019ll be ready!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> (Personally, I prefer to acknowledge the words used by the late Robin Williams, <em>\u201cThe things we fear the most have already happened to us.\u201d &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-603\" width=\"598\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-1536x960.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dreamstime_xxl_100197955-1-2048x1280.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Words can either describe or defile the truth.&nbsp; Some truths can be \u2018proven\u2019 using the scientific process: <em>&#8220;Water is wet,&#8221;  &#8220;the Sun is hot&#8221;<\/em>(integrated facts universally accepted).  Basically it <em>&#8216;goes as follows&#8217;<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(1) Ask a question<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(2) Take our best guess<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(3) Search for answers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(4) Review the information we found&#8230; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(5) Use what we found out to determine if what we thought (or were told) was right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate venue, Faith steps in for those areas the scientific approach can\u2019t answer or may deem, <em>\u2018inconclusive\u2019<\/em> (another word with multiple interpretations): <em>&#8220;Does God exist?&#8221;<\/em> <em>&#8220;What is the meaning of life?&#8221; <\/em>&nbsp;The scientific method may not be able to provide the answers sought for <em>&#8216;faith-based&#8217;<\/em> questions, but the removal of either method for processing or determining truth limits our ability to quote, <em>\u201cprove all things and hold fast to that which is good<\/em>&#8221; [Thessalonians 5:21].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-1024x819.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-646\" width=\"350\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-1536x1229.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/frank-mckenna-JB92NeJSxW4-unsplash-2048x1638.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Politicians and leaders use words to influence, sway, and instruct supporters. Repetitious, easy to remember phrases are convenient tools that often &#8216;<em>water down<\/em>&#8216; facts or &#8216;<em>glaze over<\/em>&#8216; problems and reality. They can be very idealistic; educating, uplifting, and inspiring us to do better. Or, they can be caustic, divisive, and deceiving; creating climates where no one trusts anyone or anything different.&nbsp; Using words to <em>&#8216;divide and conquer&#8217;<\/em> is a tactic as <em>&#8216;old as mankind&#8217;<\/em>.&nbsp; One thin reed by itself can be easily snapped, but combined together with others it becomes much harder to break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-338\" width=\"587\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pexels-pixabay-50581-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United is the concept that has made us a unique country. We are the <em>&#8216;sum of many parts&#8217;<\/em>, and every part has contributed to our strength and uniqueness.&nbsp; Removing or censoring any of our parts makes us dull, vulnerable, and weak.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/brett-jordan-GpxF3KeZy8A-unsplash-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1134\" width=\"-615\" height=\"-461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/brett-jordan-GpxF3KeZy8A-unsplash-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/brett-jordan-GpxF3KeZy8A-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Words are collected and prized by writers, lawyers, salespersons\u2013all.&nbsp; Carefully selected and utilized, as valuable as a carpenter\u2019s prized tools, the right word in the right moment can be <em>&#8216;life changing<\/em>&#8216;.&nbsp; We seek advice searching YouTubes and Ted Talks for answers. We buy the latest products, &nbsp;but&nbsp; if <em>&#8216;anything\u2019s possible&#8217;<\/em> and if <em>&#8216;anything can happen in the future&#8217;<\/em> (where nothing has happened&nbsp;yet), why is our default always set to seek the awful scenarios&nbsp; instead of embracing <em>&#8216;the best is yet to come&#8217;?<\/em>&nbsp; Why do we see challenges and change as threats instead of opportunities?&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"-1220\" height=\"-813\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe &nbsp;in using our words and phrases we\u2019re hoping for control (or the <em>&#8216;sense of security&#8217;<\/em> that makes us &nbsp;feel we\u2019re in control) in a world where <em>&#8216;change is the only constant<\/em>&#8216;. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be a struggle, and somewhat frightening, but if I can close with some words from former President Obama that have provided some solace when other words have failed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:25px\">\u201cWe are not here to fear the future. We are here to shape it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/tahoecall.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/world-in-your-hands-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1128\" width=\"472\" height=\"477\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And from my grandmother:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:25px\">&#8220;Always keep your words soft and sweet.
